I recently signed up. I am in Tennessee, I recently discovered that many of the state’s educational reforms are enactments of ALEC model laws. The "Virtual Public School" law has recently came under fire for being ineffective.
I looked up the virtual public school legislation in T.C.A. (Tennessee Code Annotated) and discovered the wording in the state law was taken verbatim from an ALEC model law. There seems to be an interesting twist in Tennessee law that prohibits public funding of for profit charter schools, but the legal requirement is readily circumvented publicly funding a not-for-profit organization that is then unencumbered in subcontracting for-profit corporations such as K12.
